Re: State parks to visit.
Tue, December 26, 2006 - 11:15 PMI can't even start to list them all. I go somewhere almost every weekend and as long as it gets me out of the house it is a good place. Check out my blogs for some of the places I have gone. -

Tue, February 20, 2007 - 3:39 PMOk, so you're the appointed camp cook from now on. I like mine medium rare served with a nice dark ale. Not much of a wine drinker. -

Re: State parks to visit.
Sun, March 4, 2007 - 7:18 PMMy favorite by far is Knight Island State Park in Vermont. The park occupies an island in Lake Champlain and is only accessible by boat; there's a ferry that runs on weekends during the summer or, if you have your own boat, there's a dock. The island is about 60 acres, but there are only about 12 campsites. Except for one, which is on a bluff, each campsite has its own beach, plus there is a public beach for anyone not camping on the island. The campsites are widely dispersed, so most are not within sight of each other. It is primitive camping; each site has a lean-to in which you pitch your tent (again, except for one - the largest campsite, meant for a group, does not have a lean-to), a table, a fire ring and an outhouse. You need to bring your own water or a wilderness water filter or be prepared to boil your drinking water. The biggest plus (or minus if other people's skin bothers you) is that the entire island is clothing optional. You won't find it in any official description of the park, but everyone who comes to the island is supposed to check in with the resident ranger and that's one of the things he tells you. My gf and I spent a very relaxing week there a couple of years ago. There are no motor vehicles (except for the ranger's atv) or even bicycles on the island. We walked the trails, cooked, lay on the beach, read and generally just chilled for the entire week. It was wonderful. The biggest problem is that the park is very popular among nudists and textiles alike and with so few campsites available, reservations sell out very quickly for the entire summer. Reservations for the park and the ferry can be made through the Vermont State Park online reservation system. -

Wed, September 5, 2007 - 7:20 PMsounds too primitive for me. I like my camper - I am just too old too sleep onl the hard ground any more. Love the idea of the solitude though... -
